Psychiatry Specialist in Maine
Before beginning his career as a general psychiatrist, Dr. Elliott Gruen earned a BS in psychology from Colby College and completed psychiatric rotations as a student at the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also trained as a family nurse practitioner while studying at Pace University and completed a residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. During this time, Dr. Elliott Gruen volunteered with community clinics and worked with three different state hospitals.
Dr. Gruen has additionally served as a psychiatric professional at Maine Medical Center and provided behavioral training in the therapeutic nursery. While in this role, he worked individually with preschool children, conducted group therapy sessions, and interacted with families.
Currently, Dr. Elliott Gruen serves as a general psychiatrist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, Maine, where he functions as the primary psychiatrist for an off-campus outpatient department. Since joining the hospital, he has also worked in the substance abuse unit, inpatient adult unit, and adolescent unit. He further contributes to his field as a consultant and part-time general adult psychiatrist in a private practice.
